A Two-Decade Journey with Fausto

Today we’re celebrating Fausto Flores, our Cleaning Manager at the Financial Times, on reaching an incredible 20 years with City & Essex!

Over the past two decades, Fausto has grown from a member of the cleaning team into a trusted leader, building a fantastic team along the way and helping to shape how we look after one of our most important customers. His dedication, care for his people, and passion for the job have made him a truly valued part of the City & Essex family.

We sat down with Fausto to reflect on his 20 years so far, and what’s kept him going.

Looking back over the past 20 years, what achievement are you most proud of?
“I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown over the past 20 years, both professionally and personally. As Cleaning Manager at the Financial Times, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills, build a fantastic team, and learn something new every year. Looking back, it’s rewarding to see how far I’ve come and the positive contribution I’ve been able to make.”

What has changed the most since your first day?
“The biggest change has been the way we approach health and safety. Twenty years ago, the focus was often on getting the job done. Today, there’s a much greater emphasis on the wellbeing of our people, making sure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day. It’s been a really positive change and one that’s made a real difference to our workplace. We’ve shifted from a do the work mentality to a look after the worker mentality.”

What is your favourite memory from your time here?
“It’s hard to choose just one memory because there have been so many great moments over the years. What stands out most are the friendships I’ve made and the people I’ve worked alongside. Being part of such a supportive team and sharing both the challenges and successes together has created memories that I’ll always treasure.”

Who has had the biggest influence on your career, and why?
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with many people over the years, and each of them has helped shape my career in different ways. If I had to choose one person, it would be Andy Bennett, who sadly is no longer with us. Andy saw potential in me before I saw it in myself. He took the time to mentor me, encouraged me to grow, and helped build my confidence. I’ll always be grateful for the impact he had on my career and my life.”

What has kept you motivated and engaged throughout your 20 years here?
“For me, it’s been a combination of loyalty, appreciation, and the opportunity to keep learning. I’ve always felt proud to be part of the team, and seeing the company continue to evolve has kept the job interesting. Knowing that my work helps create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone gives me a real sense of purpose. When you feel genuinely appreciated, you don’t just want to do your job, you want to be part of something bigger.”

What is something your colleagues might be surprised to learn about you?
“Many of my colleagues might be surprised to know that I play the guitar in my church’s worship band. Music has always been an important part of my life, and I really enjoy being able to use it to support my church community. It’s a great way to relax, connect with others, and do something I’m passionate about outside of work.”
