Pedal to Paris: Bringing Community & Competition Together at 8 Bishopsgate

As part of Impact Month, we were proud to take part in the inaugural Pedal to Paris Community Challenge at 8 Bishopsgate, a fantastic initiative that brought people together around a shared goal.

The challenge aimed to cover the 196km journey from London to Paris, with occupiers, clients, and service partners joining forces throughout the day. More than a test of endurance, the event celebrated teamwork, collaboration, and community spirit, while also raising awareness and support for local charities and social impact initiatives.

At City & Essex, colleagues from our Head Office, Operations team, and on-site teams at 8 Bishopsgate all got involved, taking on the challenge in 20-minute cycling shifts to keep the wheels turning from start to finish. Together, we reached an impressive 153.2 kilometres (95.2 miles).

The atmosphere throughout the day was electric. With drum and bass setting the soundtrack, colleagues cheering one another on, and a live leaderboard adding a competitive edge, there was a real sense of momentum and camaraderie. Every shift counted, and every participant played a part in driving the team forward.

A special mention goes to our Head of HSEQ, Luke Johnson, who stepped in at the last minute when a participant was unable to attend. Without hesitation, Luke borrowed kit from a colleague and jumped straight onto the bike, helping keep the team on track.

Events like this highlight the power of community within the spaces we manage. It was fantastic to see so many people getting involved, supporting one another, and contributing to such a positive and energetic environment.

We’re also proud to have donated £500 to Providence Row, a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by homelessness across East London. Every mile pedalled helped raise both funds and awareness for this important cause.

A huge thank you to everyone who represented City & Essex on the day, everyone who took part, and to the team at 8 Bishopsgate for organising another memorable community event.
